How to know if you have dust mites

Due to the fact that you cannot see dust mites, it is very hard to determine just how many mites are living in your home.  If you have severe allergic reactions in your home there is a good change you have dust mites.  Dust mites are second only to pollen in causing allergic reactions.  Normally people aren't allergic to the actual mite, but the skin they shed as they grow. Allergic reactions can be as severe as an allergy attack or as mild as itchy nose and watery eyes.

There are a few tests you can do to determine the number of mites in your home.  One would be to call a professional and have them come test your home.  This is the most accurate way, but it is also the most expensive.  A rather simple method for detecting the presence of mite is to put a small amount of dust on the surface of water and examine it under a 10x-20X magnifier.
